“When you write and publish a book, your life is changed forever!” Nicholas Boothman
Welcome To An Amazing Vortex Of Creativity…
Take a good look around the land of GoRead. The more I explore, the more excited I get. You’re entering the world’s fastest-growing community of readers, writers and authors. It’s filled with hidden treasures. Do you realize what gold you have at your fingertips?
The “gold” is the special people in this community. You’re mingling with a coterie of talented visionaries from around the world. You share a common passion for creativity. You can discover new friends who empower you to discover your inner greatness. We have great opportunities!
This is not a paid GoRead commercial. I’m writing from my heart, after a fascinating conversation with GoRead author, Nicholas Boothman. He is one of the many inspiring authors at GoRead. If you don’t know him yet, you should. Study his videos, books, articles and training. It will be worth your time. Here’s why…
Meet Nicholas Boothman: A Modern Literary Wizard!
“Boothman is Dale Carnegie for a rushed era.” The New York Times
Although I’m not his publicity agent, Nicholas has an impressive list of credentials. International speaker. Author of FIVE best-selling books. Successful book marketer — selling more TWO MILLION books in over THIRTY languages! Besides that, Nicholas is also the creator of a best-selling online training program, “How To Connect In Business In 90 Seconds Or Less.”
Although I haven’t mastered the Boothman technique of being successful in “90 seconds or less” or writing in “10-minute bursts of madness,” I’ll do my best to share his wisdom.
(Note: It’s always good to check with people before writing about them extensively. I did check with Nicholas, so I have permission to share these tips.)
How To Be A Best-selling Author…
1. Become An Expert On Your Topic – To attain the “expert” status, read everything you can about your topic. Study your competition. Give your story a unique angle.
2. Keep Writing! – Be passionate about your topic. Set aside time to write regularly. And don’t worry if it’s good enough. Put your pen on the paper and KEEP writing! Too many people spend years polishing a manuscript, without completing their story. Nicholas has a new online program of writing in 10-minute “bursts of madness” to let your creativity flow. (That’s his unique angle!)
3. Move Your Ego Aside – Let a professional critique your writing. Check for typos and grammatical mistakes. Edit your story to ensure that every word matters. Does your story have a strong plot? Does it flow naturally? Do you care about the characters?
4. Show The Benefit In Your Title! This is pure GOLD! It’s the key to bestselling wisdom. Nicholas shared how he got an advance on a book that he hadn’t written yet — BASED ON HIS TITLE ALONE! To sell millions of copies, your book must demonstrate a powerful BENEFIT TO YOUR AUDIENCE in the headline. This is critical to your success.
5. Never Ever EVER Give Up! You’ve got to persevere to reach your goal. There is no such thing as failure unless you stop trying. My true children’s story, “Dancing With Tex: The Remarkable Friendship To Save The Whooping Cranes” took a LONG time to publish… about 20 years! Many challenges happened. I almost gave up. Finally, I just made a decision to go for it. And the book got done. The important “take-away” is: keep your dreams alive.
It’s Your Turn To Discover Gold. “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.”

- Take a little time to connect, share and support others at GoRead.
- Find those who share common interests.
- Explore the author bios, peruse and share articles.
- Watch engaging videos and offer a comment.
- Make a new friend with someone whose writing appeals to you. (“Hello, to my special friend and soon-to-be-bestselling author, Renee Mollan-Masters!”)
Once you start, you’ll reap the hidden treasures of friendship, wisdom and fun in this literary community. You never know what’s waiting for you…
As Ken Dunn, Founder of GoRead and best-selling author of “The Greatest Prospector In The World” says, “It’s all in your hands!”

The Journey To An Amazon Best-Seller
I didn’t know if I could do it.
While it took me almost forever (close to 20 years!) to get my children’s book published, did I dare follow up with my next big dream? Could “Dancing With Tex: The Remarkable Friendship To Save The Whooping Cranes” become a best-selling book?
On a vision board that I created about one hundred years ago (or so it felt to me), I had written, “Become A Best-Selling Author.” At the time, I envisioned that somehow, I would be able to have a best-selling book. I had no idea how to make it happen. I made excuses that my goal was too big. I pushed it aside. However, once my book was published, I realized I’d have to take responsibility for making my dream become a reality.
Unfortunately, I had to deal with a skeptical voice inside my head. Could I really become a best-selling author? Could I step outside my comfort zone and risk (uh-oh…) failure? Without being a celebrity, a widely known marketer or social media expert, would strangers even consider buying my book? Geez… Doubts started percolating like crazy! It’s not easy dealing with the inner critic.
It’s All In The State Of Mind
I remembered a motivational book by Natalie Goldberg, author of “Writing Down The Bones.” She encourages writers to write “down the bones…” from your heart, keeping your hand moving on the paper without crossing anything out.
“If you are not afraid of the voices inside you, you will not fear the critics outside you,” Goldberg says. Her writing urged me, “This is your life. You are responsible for it. You will not live forever. Don’t wait.”
As I contemplated my next step forward, another memory came to mind. When I was a kid, my mom had posted a poem in our kitchen. It was taped to a wall for years. The poet was Walter Wintle, a man who lived in the late 19th and early 20th century. Most people don’t know much about him, but his words live on…
“If you think you are beaten, you are
If you think you dare not, you don’t,
If you like to win, but you think you can’t
It is almost certain you won’t.
If you think you’ll lose, you’re lost
For out of the world we find,
Success begins with a fellow’s will
It’s all in the state of mind.”
I realized I could keep making excuses or just move forward. What would be the worst that could happen? I’d fail publicly. But if I never tried, then I’d never have a chance.
So I started making connections earnestly. Through referrals at a wonderful, high-level business conference program called CEO Space International, I was led to many amazing, heart-centered entrepreneurs.
One of my referrals gave me the name of a social media expert and writer, Lori Sica. We spoke in late October, and when I told her of my desire to make “Dancing With Tex” a best-seller, she was skeptical. “I usually need at least 2-3 months to build someone’s following,” she said. “I can’t make any promises that you’ll be a best-seller, but I’ll do my best to build your online connections.” I gave Lori directions on what I wanted to convey, as well as administrative control of my Facebook and Twitter accounts.
PLAN YOUR WORK… AND WORK YOUR PLAN
Ever hear the saying, ‘Plan your work, and work your plan?” That what we did.
Lori and I planned to create a best-selling ebook for CyberMonday, November 28th, the busiest online shopping day of the year. I made the pricing as low as Amazon would allow for that book: $1.99. As I learned, a powerful marketing campaign combines both traditional marketing as well as a digital strategy. While Lori took charge of my social media accounts, I reached out to family, friends and colleagues, asking for support in purchasing or promoting my ebook online.
Since my book is about caring for our endangered species, I tied my book sales to an environmental cause. I decided to give a portion of my proceeds to a nonprofit that had supported my earlier efforts in fundraising. I picked The Center For Biological Diversity, a leading nonprofit that’s dedicated to protecting our land and endangered species worldwide.
Now, please understand. While I still doubted that my book could become a best-seller, I just put those doubts aside. Of course, I was still nervous when the big day rolled up…
By the end of the day on November 28th, you can imagine my thrill and amazement when – lo and behold — my ebook statistics showed a “BEST-SELLER” ranking. In my three categories, I was #5, #5 and #7 – all within the top ten books. I was a best-seller out of 47,756 ebooks!!! Incredible! I had tears in my eyes when I saw the news.
Here are five tips you can use to do the same thing.
TIPS TO ACHIEVING A BEST-SELLER STATUS
- Ask, Ask, Ask. Be willing to ask everyone you know to share the news about your book on social media. This is not the time to be shy. If you’re confident that your book deserves to be read, then let the world know about it. (Note: MANY THANKS to those who shared my book promotion on social media!)
- Hire someone to help you on social media. It takes a team to be a best-seller. There is NO WAY I could scale this mountain top on my own. Lori helped me with tweeting, posting on Facebook, and finding others who shared my interests.
- Engage with like-minded people on social media. Share other people’s work. Comment and like what they have to say. Support causes that you care about. Once you have an engaging following, you’ll be able to promote more effectively. “People don’t care about how much you know till they know how much you care” is a favorite saying of mine.
- Make giving back part of your campaign. I wanted to support an environmental cause that supported my book during its publishing phase – The Center For Biological Diversity. Since their work reinforces the message in my book, it made sense to donate proceeds of my future profits to their work in saving our environment and endangered species. People appreciate knowing that their purchase of your book will support a good cause.
- Say “Thank You!” publicly. Show gratitude with a gratitude tweet or posting. Send a personalized email. As Lori mentioned, “thank you” are two small words with big power.
My last bit of advice… Never give up on your dreams! If I could do it, so can you!

Getting Your Story Published Overcoming The “Someday” Syndrome
By: Lynn B. Sanders
Did you ever imagine getting your stories published, but you’ve just been too busy to get them done? It’s that sneaky word called procrastination. Procrastination can become a habit. We can get comfortable waiting for the right day, the right mood, the right feeling to rise up in our heart.
We sabotage ourselves by putting dreams on the back burner for a “someday.” But you know, “Someday” isn’t a real day. It’s just a way of tucking our dreams in a bottom drawer, until they gather dust and crumble away. Don’t let that happen!
I was guilty of the “Someday syndrome.” My children’s story came into my life unexpectedly, just as stories can do. There was a reason this story stayed with me for so long. I wanted to get published, but I also had to build my own inner strength first. My goal of raising environmental awareness and inspiring children to follow their dreams had to be bigger than my fears.
I confess I’ve been a procrastinator for too long. But I learned I had to set aside my perfectionistic tendencies, set a date, and take whatever steps were needed to publish. I finally got published this summer. HOORAY! You can do it too. Here are the “behind the scenes” events that inspired my journey.
Inspiration For A Children’s Story…
In 1995, little did I know what would happen as the writer for a video project at The International Crane Foundation (ICF) in Baraboo, Wisconsin. It’s the only place in the world harboring all fifteen species of cranes. I was thrilled to go for a visit.
Imagine stepping back in time. Cranes are prehistoric birds, and many stand as tall as people. From their large open pens, they look at you with beady eyes. Their heads lean back and their giant beaks open wide as they sing in a bugling voice, “Ker-LOO! Ker-LOO!” Their calls can be heard a mile away!
There are over 200 acres of nature trails. Just walking around the pathways against a backdrop of tall grasses, you feel a deep connection with nature. Cranes have been a symbol of long life and good luck. They are beautiful creatures and prized across the world.
To educate their International Marketing Managers about their environmental contributions at ICF, Amoco (now BP) sponsored this video project. It was a special day. Amoco was donating an outdoor Whooping Crane exhibit and many people were invited to the dedication ceremony. I was asked to interview the Amoco executives and Dr. George Archibald, a world-famous ornithologist and co-founder of ICF.
Off-camera, George shared a personal story with me.
“A number of years ago, I danced with a rare Whooping Crane.”
“What?” I asked. “You’re kidding…”
“No, I’m not.” Archibald said with a smile. “The bird believed she belonged with people.”
And with that, I was hooked.
Discovering The Story Of “Dancing With Tex”
It was a real friendship story between a man and bird. Tex, the rare Whooping Crane loved only people, and George, the scientist loved birds.
Tex had been raised by Fred, the zookeeper at the San Antonio Zoo. Since Fred wanted to keep Tex safe, he brought her home and cared for Tex during her first 16 days of life, not realizing the impact on Tex’s brain.
Without seeing other cranes, Tex’s brain was imprinted on people, especially men. That meant Tex believed people were her family, not birds. She shunned other birds. Scientists across the world knew that Whooping Cranes were on the verge of extinction. Every egg mattered! No one knew what to do to help Tex lay a fertile egg. That egg could help save her species.
Since all cranes do a mating dance before laying an egg, George wondered if Tex would accept him as her dancing partner. After all, she loved men. George also arranged to get help from scientists who could give Tex injections to help produce an egg. In order to get Tex to like him, George moved his bed, desk and chair into Tex’s shed, and lived with her during the spring.
A Story of Faith, Belief & Perseverance…
Tex immediately bonded with George, and the dancing started the next morning. But it wasn’t so easy for Tex to produce a fertile egg. Many challenges came up, year after year. Still, George never gave up. It took six spring seasons until a baby chick finally hatched. The rest is history.
The resulting offspring helped save the Whooping Cranes from extinction. The story was so momentous that Johnny Carson invited Archibald to be a guest on his program. (http://www.DancingWithTex.com)
It was such a compelling story. I knew it belonged in a children’s book. Did I know how to write a children’s book? No! Did I have many challenges? Of course! But did I quit? NO!
Now, I’d like to help you move forward. If you’ve got a story that needs to be written and published, these tips will propel you forward. Be prepared to leap over the inevitable challenges. Be aware that when you tell the universe your intentions, obstacles will happen. And please know that your thoughts are the compass towards bringing your stories to life.
THE FIVE KEYS: BRINGING YOUR STORY TO LIFE
- Believe In Yourself – This is crucial! No matter what others say, or how long it takes, if your dream is big enough, you CAN do it. We all carry stories in our heart that need to be shared for a higher purpose. So, HOW do you believe in yourself? Consider doing daily affirmations in the morning and evening. Allow yourself from five to twenty minutes. Close your eyes, breathe deeply, and speak to a Higher Source. Think of positive statements in the present tense, and repeat them to yourself as you breathe in and out. Examples: ”I’m having a productive day today…” Or, “I’m grateful my book is being published this year.” Or simply, ”Thank you for guiding me forward.” You can also speak these words aloud. Repetition of positive messages reinforces your belief that you’re successful.
- Keep the Faith – Even though obstacles are inevitable, they also make you stronger. It’s up to you to know there is no turning back. I love the saying, “Winners don’t quit, and quitters never win.” The dream is never over unless you quit on yourself. I should know. It took me almost twenty years to publish my children’s story.
- Never Give Up! I can’t say this enough… Never, never, NEVER give up! Keep your dreams alive. Dreams are the stuff we are all made of. No one can control your thoughts. You choose what you think. So please, choose thoughts that make you feel good about yourself.
- Ask For Help – No one knows everything. You’ll want to get expert advice from those who have already traveled on the same path that you’re about to take. If you’re writing in a new genre, talk to someone who has written in that style before. If you’re new to writing, find a writing coach. If you’re jumping into children’s writing, I’d recommend joining the national group SCBWI, Society of Children’s Book Writers & Illustrators. (http://www.scbwi.org)
- Take Responsibility For Your Actions! It all comes down to consistent, persistent effort. Action is the final key. You’ve got to set your goals and go after them. No one can do that for you. If you don’t meet a goal, so what? Set it again. And again. Ultimately, if you’ve followed each of these steps, you will accomplish your objective. You need to believe, have faith, persevere, get help and keep taking action.
Your success is waiting… just around the corner!
I believe in you. Now, it’s time for YOU to believe in you! Let your brain be imprinted on positive thoughts. Create a vision board. Cut out images of what you want to accomplish. Write down your intentions for your published book. Remember what Napolean Hill once said, “What the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve.”
Ready to go for it? Then set aside time every week to work on your own writing.
Now, let’s change that “Someday” into a different word. Let’s make it start “Today!”
To Your Success,
Lynn Sanders
P.S. News Flash! I’ve just set an audacious goal, and would be most grateful for your help! My next dream is to be a best-selling author on Amazon. If I don’t try, I’ll never know if it can happen.
I’m told it takes about 2000 people to buy your book on the same day. I’ve targeted CyberMonday, November 28th. My ebook will be $.99, and there are also paperback and hardcover books available on Amazon. Would you consider supporting this story in any way to raise environmental awareness among our youth? The book is also a great holiday gift for children of ages 6-9. (See: http://bit.ly/DancingTex)
To make a positive impact, I’m giving away half of my proceeds to the nonprofit, The Center For Biological Diversity,a leader in helping save endangered species globally. I’m also happy to give you an ethical bribe of free digital gifts through my book’s website. (http://www.DancingWithTex.com)
Thanks for considering to buy my children’s book, “Dancing With Tex” on November 28th. Together, we all achieve more!

Witnessing the Chicago Cubs win the World Series was truly a momentous, heart-stopping, exhilarating experience. Coming from a family of lifelong Cubs fans, I didn’t even know if it would be possible in my lifetime to see the Cubs win the World Series. Tears welled up in my eyes as I watched the jubilant Cubs players rush onto the field, jumping in the air, embracing each other and whooping it up.
I whooped too, high-fiving my son, Andrew. I had sat with Andrew for the final two innings, praying nervously on the couch. When the camera panned over to fans for either the Cleveland Indians or Cubs, it seemed everyone was praying. Everyone watched breathlessly. Everyone appreciated the talent, hard work and perseverance by every player on the team.
At the conclusion, what impressed me were the comments made by Joe Maddon, the Chicago Cubs manager.
“I have to compliment the Cleveland Indians on playing a great game,” he said. He went on to speak well of the competition, and their excellent performance on the field.
No one on either team bad-mouthed the other side. Both teams respected the skills, hard work, and perseverance it took to make it to the World Series. And fans from both teams respected each other.
Last Friday evening, one of the members of my congregation said, “The World Series was a nice distraction to what’s happening in politics.”
That was exactly what was on my mind during the game. The qualities of respect, integrity and decency stand in sharp contrast to our current political situation. What are we teaching our children?
I remembered back to my childhood, when Grandma Helen told me harrowing, unbelievable stories about how she had to hide out from the Cossacks during her childhood in Russia. Her frequent hiding in the woods caused her to contract jaundice, and it was her sister Sheyndl, who nursed her back to health. During Grandma’s stories, I was relieved those dark times were past. I felt safe in my bed in the early ‘60’s. Russia was far away. The Cossacks were gone. And we lived in the free world of America. Fortunately, most of Helen’s family made it out of Russia in time, before World War II began.
But Sheyndl never made it. She stayed behind with her husband and children. They couldn’t believe anything terrible would happen. Their eldest daughter was getting married. They didn’t know English and were concerned about uprooting their family to emigrate to America. My middle name — Cheryl – was given to me to remember Sheyndl, whose entire family perished in the Holocaust.
Now, I’m wondering what happened to my earlier vision of America. It seems to be broken. I want to pick up the pieces that I found at the World Series games.
- Why can’t our world’s leadership demonstrate the same great values that we saw at the World Series?
- Why does it feel safer to talk about your favorite baseball team than to discuss politics with a stranger?
- Why do people refuse to put a political sign on their lawn in concern for what people might think?
- Why can’t political candidates represent the highest values just as our world class baseball players perform at their highest capacity?
I am doing my best to be positive. Think positive. And pray for a better world.
In my quest to spread positivity among youth, I’ve been moved to write books about real people who embody outstanding values. I recognize the impact of negativity in our media. If we want our world to attract more positive events, we need to reflect those positive values ourselves. That extends to writing motivational, inspirational and empowering stories for children, so they can believe in the best within themselves.
While it took close to two decades to complete, I never gave up on my dream to be the author of a world-class, best-selling children’s book. Eventually, after almost twenty years, the children’s book, “Dancing With Tex: The Remarkable Friendship To Save The Whooping Cranes” became published on June 6th, 2016. When I held that beautifully illustrated book, I yelped aloud with joy. At LAST! To hold this dream in my hand was a precious gift. We all deserve to transform our dreams into a reality.
Now, I”m preparing to launch a campaign for my book to be an Amazon best-seller on Cyber Monday. I plan to give a percentage of proceeds to one or two of the environmental nonprofit groups that contributed towards this book’s creation. Whether I make it or not, the key is — I’m going to do what I can and show others the importance of taking action towards our dreams.
It is my hope that we, as a people, never give up on spreading positive values. It is what makes our country great.
“Go Cubs, Go!” we sing from hearts overflowing with love and gratitude.
Wouldn’t it be great if those qualities of being a World Series player extended to our political scene? Can you imagine how it would feel to have fans cheering happily and respectfully for candidates from each party? What would it be like if everyone could be kind to one another?
“Go America, Go!” we could sing. Let us hope it happens soon.

Dear Friends,
I’m going to share something with you that no one outside my family has ever seen before. Yes, you’re getting something special to start the new year off with love!
In my earlier articles, I wrote about ‘Playing Big,’ ‘Stepping Outside Your Comfort Zone’ and ‘Creating Mass Influence.’ I shared tips of honoring those who’ve touched your life. Then, I remembered something that happened to me over thirty years ago that’s still relevant today. I felt it would be worthy of an article.
In contemplating the year ahead, I want to give you the most relevant message for our world today… it can be summed up in three words: “LIVE IN LOVE.”
When I say “Live In Love,” do you know what author/teacher/speaker used those words? Who exemplified love in his work and life? Do you know?
To me, that man was the one and only Leo Buscaglia. He wrote the book on, “Love” and other love books, drawing upon his personal experiences and highlighting insightful leaders. He taught a course on love at USC, and spoke on national television to standing-room only audiences. Then, Leo gave hugs to EVERYONE after every talk. People stood in line eagerly just to get his hug! What an amazing man! I loved him. Everyone loved him. How could you resist? He was just loveable!.
As you can see, I happened to be one of Leo’s many fans. One day, inspired by his writing and television speech, I wrote him a little “Love Poem.” Then, I decided to go a step further.
This was in the early 1980’s, before most people used personal computers. I typed my letter and “A Love Note,” found Leo’s mailing address, and sent off my message. I never expected a reply.
But — Lo and behold… Leo wrote back to me! I couldn’t believe a celebrity of his stature would write to me — a total stranger! I remember whooping with excitement. WOW!
I got so excited that guess what I did? (Take a guess…) Being a writer, I felt the need to make the poem even better. So I tweaked my writing, and sent him back a second draft with another letter. Then — guess what happened?
Leo wrote back AGAIN! Yes! But I didn’t stop there. I couldn’t contain myself. So after a few months, I wrote Leo AGAIN! And — he wrote back AGAIN!
By now, I felt like we were becoming friends. I waited a little while, and then… I wrote Leo a fourth time! I admit, I wondered how long we could keep being penpals. He was a very busy man. But guess what? Leo wrote back a fourth time!
At this point, Leo gently let me know he needed to stop our correspondence. He had too much to do. I totally understood. I still treasure each of his four letters, and saved them in a scrapbook.
Since I want to keep this article at a reasonable length, I’ll just share the first two letters with you now. You can anticipate the next two letters in my future blog.
I believe dear Leo Buscaglia — whose spirit shines on us all – is glad that I’m able to share his words with you. I hope his letters give YOU encouragement to reach out, contact a favorite author, and let him or her know how much you appreciate their work. Everyone feels good being recognized. Yet how many people do that?
Listen, authors are real people — just like you — filled with hopes and dreams. They are touched when their writing is meaningful to you. They want you to be all that you can be! And if you choose to write a note, you never know what can happen…
1st note from Leo Buscaglia…. January 6, 1983
Dear Lynn,
Thank you for taking a moment to share your reaction to my work. It is important for me to know these things.
It is encouraging to find people who react positively to what I have to say. I realize it isn’t because I’ve discovered anything especially new – it’s more that we share the same recognizable humanity.
Again, I appreciate your taking a moment to contact me.
Warmly,
Leo
P.S. I was highly gratified by “A Love Note” – thank you for sharing it with me! I hope you will continue growing and becoming the very best ‘you.’
Second note from Leo Buscaglia… February 3, 1983 (One month later!)
Dear Lynn,
I received your two letters, one addressed to USC and the other to my box number. Thanks so much for your efforts to reach me and touch my life. You have.
Your second re-write of A Love Note meant a lot – how lucky to have my own poem! Your kind of support encourages me to continue on with my work.
I regret the lateness of my reply – I do hope you can understand my busy schedule. Certainly your kindness is appreciated.
Continue becoming all that you can – you are so much already!
Warmly,
Leo
*************************************************************************************************
P.S. I’d like to offer an excerpt from Leo’s book, Living, Loving & Learning. You’ll see how loveable he is!
LEO: “If you want to see how alienated we’ve become, watch when a door of an elevator opens. Everyone’s standing like zombies, facing forward, hands to the sides. “Don’t you dare reach this way because you may touch someone.” Heaven forbid! So we all stand at attention and the door opens and then one gets out and another goes in and turns around immediately and faces forward. Who told you you had to face forward? You know, I love to walk in an elevator and turn around with my back to the door! And I look at everybody and I say, “Hi! Wouldn’t it be marvelous if the elevator got stuck and we could all get to know each other?” And then an incredible thing happens. The door opens on the next floor and everybody gets off! “There’s a crazy man in the elevator. He wants to know us!”
**************************************************************************************************
P.P.S. Please let me know if you’ve enjoyed this article. I’d be MOST grateful if you send me your comments and share it with others. Thank you!
