“Did you tell yourself you loved yourself today?” Those words felt revolutionary. When did anyone ever tell me that before?
I was used to focusing on my weaknesses. My feeling of not being “enough.”
Love was something you gave to others… not oneself.
Still, those words reverberated inside my mind. It got me thinking. Maybe…maybe… I needed to consider being kinder to myself.
I wanted to please everyone, and I often didn’t think of what was best for me.One day, while on a brief vacation to visit my parents in Florida, I remember busily writing a video script. I was frustrated because I knew I made the wrong choice. Why spend my time on a project when I had such limited time with my mom? My mom gently reminded me, “Lynn, do you have to be doing all the time?
Why can’t you just be?” Oh, she was so right. How was I “being” with her? She was supposed to be my priority during that stay, and instead, my attention was focused elsewhere.
Her words still resound in my heart and taught me a lesson…
We only have limited time.
After my mom’s sudden passing at the end of 2004, followed by a long healing journey,I learned that every thought, word and action is a choice. We get to choose how we “be” every day.
So, I ask you – on the precipice of 2021 leaving us, and looking ahead…
How do you want to BE in 2022?
· What do you want your life story to be?· What steps will you take this new year?
